Google's Veo Goes Vertical

The Recap: Google's Veo 3 AI video generator just received a major update, adding support for vertical video, 1080p resolution, and significantly lower generation costs for developers.

Unpacked:

  • The new 9:16 aspect ratio support is specifically designed for mobile-first content, positioning Veo-generated videos to flood social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels.

  • Generation costs have been slashed, with Veo 3 dropping to $0.40 per second (down from $0.75) and the faster Veo 3 Fast model cut to just $0.15 per second.

  • The update also boosts output quality to 1080p HD, a jump from the previous 720p limit, though this higher resolution is currently only supported for traditional 16:9 videos.

Bottom line: This update makes creating professional-looking, mobile-ready AI video more accessible and affordable than ever. Expect to see a wave of AI-generated content optimized for your social feeds as developers and creators adopt these new capabilities.

AI Training

The Recap: In this video, I use ChatGPT image generator and Nano Banana to build a workflow that can generate new blog header images that perfectly match the branding and aspect ratio for our company's blog posts! We used to pay a design agency $18,000 per year to handle all of this design work for us, and now it costs us NOTHING.

Robinhood's AI Workforce

The Recap: Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev announced that a minority of the company's new code is written by humans, highlighting a major shift where nearly all of its engineers now use AI coding assistants.

Unpacked:

  • The adoption of AI editors at Robinhood is close to 100%, with engineers using a range of tools from GitHub Copilot to more advanced systems like Cursor and Windsurf.

  • Tenev noted a significant evolution from simple autocomplete features to more "agentic" editors where AI writes nearly all of the code, making it difficult to distinguish from human work.

  • This widespread AI use has delivered a huge internal impact, helping the company stabilize costs and boost efficiency across teams from software engineering to customer support.

Bottom line: This level of adoption at a major fintech company signals that AI-assisted programming is quickly becoming the new industry standard. The focus is shifting from simply writing code faster to fundamentally altering how software is designed, built, and maintained.

NVIDIA's AI Factory Vision

The Recap: NVIDIA is partnering with industrial giants like Siemens and Schneider Electric to release a reference design for a new class of data centers called “AI factories.” The new Omniverse Blueprint provides a holistic approach to building infrastructure that is optimized specifically for AI workloads.

Unpacked:

  • NVIDIA’s approach flips the traditional model where data centers are designed independently of the computers they house, instead engineering power, cooling, and compute as a single, unified system.

  • The core of this vision relies on digital twins, allowing designers to build and simulate an entire AI factory in the virtual world using physically accurate, simulation-ready assets before any physical construction begins.

  • This is not a solo effort; it’s a massive collaboration with partners across the entire stack, from power generation and cooling to design and simulation.

Bottom line: This initiative signals a major expansion for NVIDIA beyond selling chips into providing the full-stack blueprint for the next generation of computing infrastructure. For enterprises, this offers a more efficient and de-risked path to building the massive facilities needed to power large-scale AI.

The Shortlist

Microsoft to use Anthropic's models to power new features in its Office 365 suite, signaling a move to diversify its AI providers beyond its primary partner, OpenAI.

Anthropic enabled file creation and editing within Claude.ai for paid users, allowing the model to generate ready-to-use spreadsheets, documents, and PDFs from conversational prompts.

IDC forecasts that global AI spending will reach $1.3 trillion by 2029, driven by a 31.9% compound annual growth rate as enterprises and service providers build out agentic AI platforms.

An engineer created Cursed, a fully functional programming language that uses Gen-Z slang for keywords (e.g., slay for func), by running Anthropic's Claude in an automated loop for three months.
